Japanese bond yields approach decades-high
Japanese government bond prices fell Monday morning, sending yields back to decades-high levels, according to reports. Fears that rising conflict in the Middle East will push inflation higher. The yield on the 10-year bond rose 6 basis points to 2.32 percent, near the all-time high set in January 1999.
The yield on the five-year bond rose 5 basis points to 1.72 per cent, just one step away from its highest level since listing. The move in Japanese government bond yields follows U.S. government bond yields, which have fallen for several weeks and are currently at their highest level in months.
Tensions in the Middle East show no sign of easing, with Trump issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz or face attacks on Iran's power plants, a deadline that expires on Monday night in New York time.
