Amazon completes full investment of $50 billion in OpenAI

On August 1 and July 31 local time, Amazon disclosed in its 10-Q quarterly report that it had completed a full investment in OpenAI totaling US$50 billion. In the first quarter of this year, Amazon invested $15 billion in OpenAI's Series C preferred stock and promised to purchase an additional $35 billion. In the second quarter, the company invested $13.7 billion of its committed amount to purchase OpenAIC Series preferred shares. After the reporting period, the company invested the remaining US$21.3 billion in commitment in OpenAI's Series C preferred stock. Amazon said that if OpenAI completes an initial public offering (IPO) or other liquidity event, the issued Series C preferred shares will be converted to common stock at that time. The company expects to be subject to a customary lock-in period after the IPO and will remain subject to applicable securities law restrictions thereafter.
