U.S. Department of Justice cites Bitcoin Fog ruling to oppose Roman Storm's motion for not guilty
U.S. federal prosecutors cited the District of Colombia Circuit Court of Appeals's conviction and sentencing decision of Bitcoin Fog operator Roman Sterlingov as additional evidence to refute Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm's plea of innocence. The ruling, issued on September 25, confirmed that Washington, D.C., has jurisdiction over both money laundering charges and unlicensed money transfer charges because undercover agents completed Bitcoin Fog transactions at the D.C. office and there was sufficient evidence that the platform had served local customers. Prosecutors pointed out that the verdict directly supported its position in the Storm case.
