Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Wash speaking at an IMF meeting in Bangkok said he would not pre‑judge the outcome of the two remaining policy meetings this year, nor would he disclose in advance what steps the Fed might take. Wash said: “This is a new chapter for the Federal Reserve; we are no longer doing this.” When asked about recent hints from colleagues that there is no rush to raise rates this month, he neither explicitly endorsed nor opposed the view. Wash reiterated that the Fed aims to achieve price stability, noting that since the September rate hike, global economic performance has broadly aligned with central bank expectations, and he described recent moves by other central banks as a synchronized tightening of monetary policy in most parts of the world. In September, the Fed unanimously decided to raise rates by 25 basis points, lifting the target range for the federal funds rate to 3.75%–4%, at a time when most officials expected at least another hike later this year. Although the core CPI rose 0.33% month‑on‑month in September, marking a second straight month of strong performance.
