Google to Launch MPC-Based Crypto Custody System
On Wednesday, Google officially launched its Google Multi-Party Compute (MPC) security service at its inaugural Digital Assets Summit in New York—designed to help financial institutions such as banks securely custody and transfer cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets. The service is currently in private preview, with several financial institutions already participating in testing. Its parent company, Alphabet, is also using it to safeguard its own digital assets on the Ethereum and Solana blockchains. Commercial rollout is scheduled for early 2027; pricing has not yet been disclosed. Technically, the system employs private key sharding—splitting keys into multiple independent fragments stored across separate environments. All transaction signatures must first pass compliance checks against institution-defined rules. The service natively supports both ECDSA and Ed25519 signature algorithms.
