Trump: “We may reach a deal with Democrats at some point.”
Trump said that if Democrats win a majority in Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, he may be forced to assume the role of “Mr. Veto”: “They’ll send bill after bill, and you just veto them all.” He explained, “After a month or two—once every single proposal has been vetoed—you’ll realize these bills are utterly meaningless and a complete waste of time, so they’ll have no choice but to come to me to negotiate.” He added that a deal between the two sides remains possible at some point down the road. On Sunday, Trump will hold campaign rallies in Kansas and Iowa to help Republicans retain control of Congress. Yet current polls—showcasing his own flagging approval ratings—are creating an opening for Democrats, who stand to regain control of at least one chamber, and possibly both. “I hope we don’t have to go down that path,” he said.
