During the 2026 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, Joseph Tsai, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Alibaba Group, delivered a keynote speech on November 3. He noted that global AI demand continues to surge, and Chinese enterprises are deepening their open-source model initiatives and ecosystem openness—key metrics such as open-source model download volumes consistently rank among the world’s highest. He stated unequivocally: “Only through open source can AI achieve mass adoption; only through mass adoption can we build a sustainable, inclusive era of intelligence.” According to Tsai, Alibaba officially launched its open-source and open-ecosystem strategy three years ago; to date, the Qwen series has open-sourced over 470 models, with cumulative global downloads exceeding 4 billion.
