Tensions between the United States and Iran rise as oil tankers are attacked in the Strait of Hormuz
On June 28, CNBC reported that on Saturday, a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was hit by artillery shells. This was the latest manifestation of the recent escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran after the two sides reached an interim agreement aimed at ending hostilities in the region. The British Maritime Trade Action Center said a ship in the Strait was hit by a "unidentified flying object" and damaged its hull, but the crew were reported to be safe and sound. Bahrain also condemned Iran's drone strike on Saturday, calling it a "flagrant violation" of its sovereignty. The new attacks come as the United States and Iran were supposed to be in the middle of a 60-day ceasefire negotiation that was negotiating to end the war. But both countries accused the other of violating terms of the agreement.
