Swiss government: will promote the implementation of trade commitments with the United States and expect the United States to fulfill its reciprocal obligations
On June 30, the Swiss government issued an announcement saying that it signed a joint statement with the United States last year aimed at stabilizing bilateral trade relations. As part of ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States, the Federal Council recently issued a statement of intent explaining how it will implement specific commitments arising from previous joint statements. In addition to reducing import tariffs on some U.S. goods after signing the statement, the committee also plans to take further measures to implement the relevant agreement. The measures include simplified recognition of U.S. standards in conformity assessment bodies, medical devices, passenger vehicles, and government procurement, and the committee will implement these measures by amending regulatory regulations. The implementation of these measures is in line with the goals set out in the joint statement and consistent with the mandate for negotiations with the United States. The Committee also expects the United States to fulfill its commitments in the same way. The announcement will further help stabilize bilateral economic relations between Switzerland and the United States and provide greater planning certainty for Swiss exporters. Negotiations on a legally binding trade agreement are still ongoing.
