FBI: North Korea Responsible for Over $6 Billion Theft from Binance
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has attributed a theft of over $6 billion in digital assets from Binance—occurring around October 29—to North Korea. The FBI has codenamed the cyber operation behind this attack “TraderTraitor.” According to joint monitoring by the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, and the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, suspects are actively converting stolen funds into ETH and are highly likely laundering them further via DeFi protocols and instant swap services. In response, the three agencies jointly urge node operators, instant-swap platforms, DeFi service providers, and other virtual asset service providers to block and promptly report any transactions originating from or associated with the addresses identified in the advisory.
