Against the backdrop of the Democrats’ sweeping victory and the Republicans’ significant setback in the U.S. midterm elections, the Trump administration’s military posture toward Iran has shown signs of easing.

According to a report cited by Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday, Trump acknowledged in a phone interview with The Wall Street Journal that the Iran situation had indeed dampened Republican electoral prospects in this midterm cycle—and weighed on his own approval ratings—but stressed he had no regrets: “I would do it again.”

Earlier, when speaking to the media about U.S.-Iran tensions, Trump remarked, “We seem to be getting everything we want.” He then added, “I’m ready—we’re ready—to act if necessary; but right now, it may not be necessary.”

It bears emphasis that Trump’s remarks do not signal that the U.S. has abandoned the military option. He reiterated that Washington is fully prepared for further escalation—yet sees no sufficient justification for using force at this time.
