If opening Binance's app or website in Indonesia shows "Akun tidak tersedia di Indonesia" — or the page simply will not load — you are looking at a regulatory block, not a broken account. In June 2026 Indonesia's illegal-investment task force (Satgas PASTI) published the 228 unlicensed digital financial asset traders shut down between January and May, with Binance first on the list. The same list includes KuCoin, Coinbase, Bybit, OKX, Gate, MEXC and HTX. This article covers three things: why the block happened, what to do with the assets you already hold, and which kind of platform will not walk you into the same wall again.

The short answer: this is not a Binance failure, it is a licensing gap

  • The action was taken not because of funding problems or a technical incident, but because the platform lacks an Indonesian crypto trading licence;
  • The legal basis is POJK 27/2024: crypto trading may only be conducted by entities licensed or registered with OJK, and assets must sit on the DAKD list maintained by the two licensed crypto exchanges CFX and IC/ICEx;
  • What it means for you is blocked access plus no local legal or consumer protection — not that your coins vanished. But if you can neither open the site nor reach support, the assets are effectively out of your control, and that risk sits with you.

So the order of operations is: restore access, plan the migration of assets, then move to a licensed platform.

Why the block happened: Indonesia changed regulator

Indonesia's rules shifted first. The 2023 P2SK financial-sector law moved crypto supervision from Bappebti to OJK; the handover took effect in January 2025, the old PFAK category became PAKD (digital financial asset trader), and OJK began maintaining a whitelist of licensed and registered operators alongside published illegal-entity lists. Enforcement then tightened sharply: in the first five months of 2026 alone, 228 unlicensed operators were ordered to stop.

Binance's Indonesian troubles are not new either — it appeared on Indonesian block lists around 2021. This round is a coordinated OJK-era enforcement action: named platforms are blocked for Indonesian connections, which is the notice users see.

One clarification matters: appearing on the list does not mean the platform is a scam; it means it is not licensed to operate in Indonesia. Many well-known international venues appear on the same list.

Three realistic options right now

Option 1: move to an OJK-licensed local platform (recommended)

This is the lowest-friction route. Licensed platforms support rupiah funding and local-language support, and disputes can be escalated inside Indonesia's regulatory framework. Familiar names include Indodax, Tokocrypto, Pintu, Nanovest, Upbit Indonesia, Luno and BTSE; Upbit's local entity, PT Upbit Exchange Indonesia, is on the OJK whitelist. For the mechanics — KYC, rupiah deposits, placing orders, withdrawals — see our global beginner's BTC guide.

Option 2: migrate the assets you left on Binance

  1. Log in if you can and export trade history and statements for your tax records;
  2. Withdraw to your own self-custody wallet or a licensed platform account — verify the network and address, and test with a small amount first;
  3. Check that KYC and two-factor authentication still work so you are not locked out at the moment you need them;
  4. If withdrawals are restricted or support is unreachable, keep every message and screenshot, and raise it through OJK's consumer protection channels.

On wallets and backups see how to choose a wallet and the seed phrase and private key guide. Above all, do not leave assets parked on a platform you cannot reliably access.

Option 3: keep using it over a VPN (not recommended)

Bypassing the block is not the same as being compliant. It stacks compliance risk, the absence of local recourse, and the 1% offshore final income tax on sales (about 0.21% domestically — see below). For most Indonesian users the cost outweighs the benefit.

Should you keep an international account as a fallback?

Binance, OKX, Gate and HTX genuinely lead on global scale, depth and coin coverage, and we have reviewed their products and fees in our Binance review, OKX review and HTX review. For users in Indonesia they share one problem set: not on the OJK whitelist, access may be blocked, the seller-side tax tier is 1%, and there is no local legal protection. They are useful as industry reading or for cross-border use — not as your primary route in Indonesia. If you do want to keep an international account, weigh the compliance and access risk yourself; you can look at Binance, OKX or HTX, but do not expect them to replace a licensed local platform.

Tax: price it in before you switch

Under PMK 50/2025, effective 1 August 2025, crypto tax now depends on where the platform sits:

  • Domestic licensed platform (PAKD): final income tax of about 0.21% of transaction value on sales;
  • Offshore platform: the same sale is taxed at 1%, roughly five times the domestic rate;
  • VAT (PPN) rules were adjusted in parallel, and mining income moves to normal income tax rules from fiscal 2026.

For users who move money in and out regularly, tax alone gives licensed local platforms a structural advantage. They withhold automatically and issue receipts, so filing the annual SPT is straightforward.

How to tell whether a platform will be blocked next

  1. Check the OJK whitelist and note whether the entity is a licensed PAKD or a registered CPAKD;
  2. Confirm the coin you want sits on the exchange-maintained DAKD list;
  3. Search the brand against Satgas PASTI's illegal-entity lists;
  4. Check the app supports rupiah deposits and same-name withdrawals;
  5. Only then compare fees and spreads.

One more caution: blocks are prime hunting season for phishing sites. FAQ

Is there a legal way to use Binance in Indonesia?

No. Binance itself is not on the OJK whitelist and appears on the June 2026 unlicensed list. What Indonesian users can legally use are OJK-whitelisted platforms. Be especially careful with local "agents" or "mirror sites" using the Binance name — verify the domain and the operating entity first.

Is my money on Binance still safe?

The assets do not disappear because a website is blocked locally, but you end up unable to open it or reach support. The practical approach is to export records quickly, move assets to self-custody or a licensed account where possible, and keep evidence of your communications. Access and safety are two different questions.

Can I just use a VPN?

Technically yes, but it is a poor long-term plan: compliance risk is yours, there is no local consumer protection, and sales are taxed at the 1% offshore rate. Switching to a licensed platform fixes access, protection and tax at once.

Are Indonesian platforms any safer?

A licence is not zero risk — every platform carries operational and technical risk. The test should be: on the OJK whitelist, listing assets on the DAKD list, and offering a local complaint channel. On top of that, size your positions and keep long-term holdings in your own wallet.
