On October 31, Bitwise’s Q4 Staking Report revealed that Ethereum’s staked supply reached 43.8 million ETH—35.9% of its total supply—a new all-time high. Net inflows totaled 1.99 million ETH in Q3, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of net inflows. Meanwhile, Solana’s active staked supply rose to 440.5 million SOL. However, staking yields declined across both chains: Ethereum’s average annualized yield dropped from 2.81% in Q2 to 2.63% in Q3, with 96.3% of returns attributable to ETH issuance; Solana’s gross staking yield edged down slightly from 6.38% to ~6%, with nearly 90% still derived from token issuance. Notably, these yield figures exclude validator or service provider fees and therefore do not reflect end-investor net returns.

Coinbase noted that staking-based ETFs and digital-asset treasury solutions are steadily broadening institutional access paths. Kean Gilbert, Head of Institutional Relations at the Lido Ecosystem Foundation, emphasized that as custodians begin offering staking services, institutional investors can plug directly into staking via existing custody relationships. Today’s discussions have shifted toward operational concerns—including validator node decentralization, smart contract code audit quality, and fund-level staking ratios. Liquidity constraints remain a widespread practical hurdle: Gilbert explained that funds typically must process redemptions within one to two business days, while ETH unstaking takes several weeks—necessitating a meaningful allocation to unstaked assets as liquidity buffers. He estimated that staking ratios for related products in European markets average between 50% and 60%. While liquid staking tokens (e.g., stETH, jitoSOL) offer alternative exit mechanisms, their real-world liquidity remains constrained by secondary-market depth and price stability.
